Teams and shame

To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men, that is genius. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

What is burning deep inside of you? If you could spread your personal message RIGHT NOW to 1 million people, what would you say?..

The thought that is burning inside of me is that each one of us are but a slice.  Now we can, with our slice have access to the God of Creation, we can be free to be who we are, we can make an incredible difference in the world.

But.......

We can do exponentially more with in a team.  God said about the people at the Tower of Babel, behold they are one people and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do.  And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.  Now the one thing the people at the Tower of Babel did not do, was be mindful of God as they made their plans, so we know the story, he confused their language and caused them to be dispersed.

The one thing I know, is to get a team of people to be of one mind and speak the same language you must overcome shame for that group of people so that they come together.  To overcome shame in a group, the leader must lead with acknowledging his own shame, in other words lead with his own humility.  You cannot have humility without being humiliated with your own shame first.  So a leader must risk being vulnerable and share their own shame for the benefit it will have to the team being led.

Because if you can bring your team together, to be of one mind and speak the same language, there is nothing that you propose to do that will now be impossible!
