Until I speak it, it can not happen

One Thing by Colin Wright

Do your work, and I shall know you. Do your work, and you shall reinforce yourself. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Take a moment, step back from your concerns, and focus on one thing: You have one life to achieve everything you’ve ever wanted. Sounds simple, but when you really focus on it, let it seep into your consciousness, you realize you only have about 100 years to get every single thing you’ve ever wanted to do. No second chances. This is your only shot. Suddenly, this means you should have started yesterday. No more waiting for permission or resources to start. Today is the day you make the rest of your life happen. Write down one thing you’ve always wanted to do and how you will achieve that goal. Don’t be afraid to be very specific in how you’ll achieve it: once you start achieving, your goals will get bigger and your capability to meet them will grow.

I am amazed by truth.  When I find secular truth, I always find it to be spiritual truth.  In fact, I believe all things are spiritual and there is nothing secular, but that would be another topic.

The truth that is contained in Emerson's quote is that our work defines who we are. In the book of James, the author claims that he will show you his faith by his work.  And faith without works is nothing.  What he is saying that if you have faith, it will have a fruit in changing who you are and the fruit of that change will be works that can be viewed by others.

Now to the challenge.  One thing that I have wanted to do for a while is run a long distance race.  My wife had cancer eight years ago and since her treatment ended, she and I have been on a journey of staying healthy so that we can stay active in our last third of life, we are now both fifty.

Now before we accomplish a goal, we first have to think about the goal, and then we generally have to speak about the goal.  So here we go, I am running in the Phoenix Rock and Roll half marathon next January 2012.  I have a long way to go, my wife and I ran 2 miles today and a half a marathon is 13.1 miles.  But that is my goal.  And to move towards that goal I have to be gutsy enough to speak the goal out loud to other people first.

You guys are some of the first!
