The Holy Spirit and Jesus

The gospel states that Jesus paid a price so that we could have the free gift of Salvation and become born again.  This born again experience, is an experience with the Holy Spirit, who is Jesus, being formed in our heart.  It is the mystery of the ages, where two become one.  The two are Jesus, and all people who are saved, or the elect, or Christians as determined by God.  To be a member of "all of Christianity" you simply need the faith of a mustard seed.  A little bit of faith or hearing by faith is what is required.  The cool thing is that when we believe that God loves us, and demonstrated that by becoming man and dying in our place on the cross, in that moment of faith we experience the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is said to be the seal of our salvation.

And here is the kicker, it is interesting to me that Jesus had to leave the earth in order for the Holy Spirit to come.

Kind of like Clark Kent has to leave the room so Superman can show up.

All this makes me wonder what the second coming will actually be like?  I think it will not be as we might imagine, with Jesus coming down as a man.  I wonder if it will have something to do with all believers being brought together so that the Glory of Christ might be seen in all of His elect as he marries the bride, which in scripture is the universal church.  I have no theological training in what the scripture says to support this, but I have enough knowledge of scripture, different scriptures to cause me to think this might be possible.

This weekend our pastor talked about the scandal of Jesus.  People were not expecting the Messiah to be these things.  The scandals are as follows:

1. He was God.
2. God came down to his people, people did not have to do anything to reach him, he found them.
3. God came to us in time and place.  This is God outside of time, the creator of time.  He came to us as a baby.
4. God suffered.  We would never imagine a God we created in our minds to suffer.
5. God died.  Again, we would never think this to be God's plan.

All this to say, if there were all these scandals which caused the Jews to not recognize Jesus when he was here, who's to say we understand how he is coming back?
